Traveling to LA/Glendale area. Need advice, see details.?
Is there a better (less busy) airport other than LAX? I saw Bob Hope airport, but that's more expensive. Is it worth the expense? If I fly into LAX, can public transportation be counted on for traveling to and around Glendale, or do I need to rent a car? Advice on best driving route from LAX to Glendale? How to avoid the worst traffic? (Am completely unfamiliar with the area... any advice is greatly appreciated!)

There is plenty of public transportation from LAX. Go to Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit web site for buses and trains.

Burbank (bob Hope) is very close to Glendale and its sometimes flights to there are cheaper (depending on what airline you are (in fact there's one airline thats charges only $10!(to Columbus) (well you do have to pay for checking luggage and food (plus taxes) if you have to Land at Lax, its quite easy to get to Glendale you can board the flyway bus to Union station then board a metrolink or Amtrak train for a quick 8 minute hop to Glendale Glendale also has their own transit system,(which incidentally you can track online! it will tell you when the next bus is due) see http://www.glendalebeeline.com/ http://www.metrolinktrains.com if you use Bob Hope you could also use eater Amtrak or Metrolink to Glendale as well (thees a station just outside the airport also one neat thing about this Burbank/Glendale/Lax corridor you can buy a metrolink ticket and its valid for ANY TRAIN ( either Amtrak or Metrolink (its valid for only Burbank-Glendale -Lax (union station) route

Burbank airport is close to Glendale. It may cost more, but it might be worth it as you may save on transportation to and from. Sure, it's theoretically possible to take PT around LA. But everything is so spread out, it's gets really, really inconvenient. As for avoiding the traffic, the only way to do that is stay home. Enjoy. If you are sight-seeing, you really need a car for most places. From LAX take the 405 north to the 101 freeway east, I think. The signs say Ventura one one and Los Angeles the other way. Take the Los Angeles one. I know it's counter intuitive, welcome to LA. Take the 101 to the 134 and exit where ever you need to go. Confirm all this with a map, please. I'm working from memory.

I live in Glendale and I say take the risk to pay more, because lax is a hour away from Glendale

I would fly into Burbank..LAX is way too crowded, and choatic and you will have to pay the extra to get to Glendale anyway. You will be able to get to Glendale much easier from Burbank. You might want to rent a car...public transit here sucks!!! It will take you hours to get anywhere!

If you're going to Glendale, fly into BURBANK airport. It's very close to Glendale, and you could even get a shuttle back for around $20.00. It shouldn't be that much more expensive than LAX. If you have to fly into LAX, just get a shuttle to Glendale. Or you could take their train line to Union Station, and take the Goldline to Pasadena, and then take a bus from Pasadena to Glendale (Glendale is right next to Pasadena --20 minute bus ride only). But in general, just get one of the airport shuttles. They are not that pricey. Count on spending about $20.00 plus a $4.00 tip. Seriously though, if you fly into Burbank, you'll be set, cause that's the town right next to Glendale. Depending on where you're moving to in Glendale, it could be as little as like 5-10 minutes away! Burbank airport is smaller and more friendly and easier to get around in, too. Don't worry though, people at LAX will help you out if you get confused. Same with Burbank airport. L.A. might seem scary, but people will totally help you. So don't worry and good luck
